Best Day to Get Married in Toronto?

Comparing Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday

As a 2025 bride and a Toronto-based Wedding Content Creator, I’ve had the chance to attend and capture weddings across every kind of weekend setup: Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, even the occasional Thursday. And here's what I’ve learned:

The best day to get married really comes down to your crowd, your priorities, and your budget.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the pros and cons of each wedding day option, share real insights from couples I’ve worked with, and offer a few personal thoughts from my own planning experience.

💍 Saturday Weddings: The Classic Choice

Let’s start with the obvious. Saturdays are the gold standard for weddings. They’re the most requested, the easiest for guests, and typically offer the least resistance when it comes to schedules.

Pros:

  • Most convenient day for guests (no time off work)
  • Easiest to plan a full-day experience: ceremony, cocktail hour, and late-night dancing
  • Ideal for traditional or religious ceremonies (especially for Catholic church ceremonies, which can only be held on weekdays & Saturdays)

Cons:

  • Most expensive and competitive booking day
  • May limit your vendor or venue choices if you book later in your planning window.

Personal Note: We chose a Saturday for our own wedding because we’re having a Catholic church ceremony, and I’m really glad we did. At the time, I hadn’t even launched my WCC business yet, but now that I’ve seen dozens of timelines firsthand, I can confidently say Saturdays offer the smoothest guest flow if your budget allows for it.

🍾 Friday Weddings: Budget-Friendly and Party-Ready

Fridays are becoming way more popular, especially for couples who want to save without compromising on the vibe.

Pros:

  • Greater venue availability, especially during peak season
  • You get the rest of the weekend to relax, brunch, or extend the celebration
  • Sometimes slightly more affordable, but not always

Cons:

  • Guests may need to take a full or half day off work
  • For luxury venues in Toronto, Fridays are often priced similarly to Saturdays/Sunday.

Real example: My maid of honor had her wedding on a Friday, and it was one of the best parties I’ve ever been to. She got exclusive use of the venue (which she would’ve had to share with another wedding if she had opted for a Saturday/Sunday date), and saved significantly. She had, if I remember correctly, 155 guests, and we partied until 1 a.m.! It was so nice to still have the whole weekend to recover!

If you give your guests enough notice, most people will take the day off. Those who are excited to celebrate you will show up.

🌿 Thursday Weddings: A Luxe Option Without the Competition

Thursday weddings are quietly gaining popularity in Toronto, especially for couples booking high-demand or luxury venues like Graydon Hall Manor.

Pros:

  • Similar pricing to Fridays, sometimes lower
  • Much more availability at top-tier venues
  • Vendors may be more flexible with custom packages

Cons:

  • Guests almost always need to take time off work
  • May be harder for out-of-town guests to attend

Thursday weddings work best if you're planning well in advance and giving guests plenty of notice. If your guest list includes mostly local friends or family, this can be a fantastic way to book your dream venue at a more accessible rate.

Personal Note: My dream venue when I started wedding planning was Graydon Hall Manor, it's probably one of, if not THE most luxurious wedding venue in Toronto. When I had inquired about a Saturday wedding in November, though there was some discounting due to it being off season (I'll talk more about that below), it still came up to double what we are paying at the venue we ended up signing with. We could have done the Thursday pricing but knowing our guest list, it would be really hard for my family (who are out of town) to come in, so we sadly had to pass on that dream.

✨ Sunday Weddings: Chill, Affordable, but With Some Tradeoffs

Sunday weddings are another popular option, especially for brunch weddings, more intimate gatherings, or budget-conscious couples.

Pros:

  • Potential for lower venue and vendor costs
  • No need for guests to take a day off beforehand
  • Great for religious ceremonies or daytime events

Cons:

  • Many guests leave early (especially if they work Monday)
  • Less likely to be a big drinking or dancing night
  • Guests may not stay overnight unless it’s a long weekend

From what I’ve seen as a content creator, Sunday weddings do tend to wind down earlier, not because people aren’t having fun, but because they’re thinking about Monday. Travel, early mornings, and regular life get in the way a little more.

If you’re planning a Sunday wedding on a long weekend, that can absolutely solve for this, but be aware that long weekend dates are popular and venues often charge a premium. You’ll want to book early.

💡 Bonus Tip: Consider the Season

In Toronto, peak wedding season runs from May to October, while off-peak typically spans November through April.

If you’re trying to stay within budget, consider booking during off-season months. You’ll often find more availability, better vendor rates, and more negotiating power, especially for Friday or Sunday dates.

I initially didn't even know about off and on peak seasons until I started my business, I always knew that I wanted a Fall wedding, initially wanted to do an end of October wedding but then I found out that we could save $30 per plate at my venue if we went for a November date. We of course jumped on that because $30 savings per plate is what is paying for us to be able to add 2 surprise guest experiences & having a hair and makeup team available all day for my entire bridal party!

Final Thoughts from a Toronto Bride & WCC

There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to choosing your wedding day. Saturdays are tried and true. Fridays offer flexibility.

Thursdays can unlock high-end venues without the stress of peak pricing. Sundays bring warmth and calm, just with a slightly earlier last call.

It really depends on your crowd. For example, we knew our older family members wouldn’t stay late or drink much regardless, but our friends?

We wanted them to stay, dance, and make the most of the premium open bar, so Saturday worked best for us.

No matter what day you choose, what matters most is that it works for you and your people.

Give guests plenty of notice, plan with intention, and you’ll set the tone for a day that feels personal, meaningful, and fun.
