Wedding Content Creator Checklist: What to Ask Before You Book

July 8, 2026 Hiring Advice / How To

Hiring a Wedding Content Creator (WCC) can be one of the most exciting decisions you make, but also one of the most confusing. With so many styles, deliverables, and levels of experience out there, asking the right questions can make all the difference.

Here are 8 questions to ask before hiring a WCC, plus what to listen for in their responses (and a few gentle red flags to watch out for).

1. How many weddings have you worked as a content creator?

✅ "I've worked 10+ weddings," or they can speak confidently about their experience capturing full-day coverage, working with vendor teams, and navigating unpredictable wedding moments.

🚩 "I've only done content for friends," or no real experience working alongside professional media teams.

Tip: Newer WCCs can still be great! Just make sure they have a plan for how they collaborate on wedding days.

2. Can I see a full gallery or sample folder from a past wedding?

✅ They offer a Dropbox, Google Drive, or private link showing a wide range of candid moments, from prep to reception.

🚩 They only show Reels from IG or hesitate to show even partial coverage. Social posts are curated; you want to see what you'll actually receive.

3. What kind of edits do you offer? Are they included in the package?

✅ They clearly explain what you get and/or their website clearly states their packages and offerings: e.g., 1 highlight edit (60–90 seconds), a certain number of social-ready videos, or optional add-ons.

🚩 They speak vaguely or only mention trendy edits, without clarifying delivery timelines or formats.

4. How soon will I receive my content?

✅ "Within 24–48 hours," or they clearly outline their turnaround times on their website or IG pages.

🚩 No clear timeline or inconsistency with what they promise.

5. How will the content be delivered?

✅ "Through a secure link to an organized Dropbox Folder or Google Drive, with access available for 30–90 days."

🚩 Airdrop or Shared Albums only, or unclear about delivery timelines.

6. How do you collaborate with photographers and videographers on the day?

✅ They emphasize low-impact presence, communication with other media vendors prior to the wedding day, and a "fly-on-the-wall" approach.

🚩 They don't mention collaboration at all or sound dismissive of working with other teams.

7. Do you offer any add-on services (e.g., camcorder footage, digital photography, film)?

✅ They disclose extra services transparently and encourage you to check with your photo/video teams about overlap.

🚩 They offer media services that could breach existing vendor contracts without any discussion about it.

8. Do you carry insurance and operate under a contract?

✅ Yes and they have a clear, professional contract with liability coverage (especially important at venues).

🚩 They don’t use contracts or leave payment terms vague.

Lastly, not a question to ask them, but a question to ask yourselves post meeting is;

9. Do I like their vibe/energy? Will I enjoy their presence all day?

This one is super important because they'll be a part of your media team, and will be around you and your fiancé all day. You want to make sure you like their energy, vibe, and presence.

Bonus - Are you an Independent Content Creator or do you have a team?

They'll likely have this noted on their website or social channels, but it's always good to ask if the person you're speaking with will be the creator who shows up the day of or if they have associate creators under their brand who may be assigned to work your wedding. Nothing wrong with this, as there are now wedding content creation brands that operate much like photography studios. An important question to ask if vibe and presence are important to you.

If you are speaking with a studio like wedding content creation brand, I would ask if all associates are trained in the same way or how they ensure consistency among their creators, who edits the content at the end of the day, if you're able to see specific galleries of different creators who may be be assigned to cover your day, and if you're able to meet with them prior to the wedding.

Final Thoughts:

Choosing a WCC isn’t just about finding someone with the most viewed Reels on their Instagram Feed.

It’s about hiring someone who has a clear process in place from the first consult call to content delivery.

Someone knows how to work collaboratively with your vendor team and

asks the right questions to understand and execute your content vision.

Use these questions as a starting point, trust your gut, and choose someone whose work feels like you.
