Wedding Content Creator or Videographer? Who Should I Hire? Do We Need Both?

May 2, 2025 WCC 101 / Education, Hiring Advice / How To

If you’re here, chances are you’re deep in the planning process and asking the big question:

Do I need a videographer, a wedding content creator, or both?

Let’s break it down.

First: They’re Not the Same

Wedding Content Creators (WCCs) and Videographers are two completely different vendors, each offering a unique perspective of your wedding day.

🎬 Videographers: Cinematic Storytellers

Services they typically will offer:

  • Cinematic Short Films: Typically ranging from 6 to 15 minutes, these films artfully weave together the day's major moments, often incorporating audio overlays like vows and speeches to tell a cohesive love story.
  • Professional Equipment: Utilization of multiple large, high-definition cameras, use of tripods, drones, and advanced editing software to produce visually stunning content.
  • Turnaround Time: Delivery timelines usually span from 4 to 12 weeks, allowing for meticulous editing and post-production.
  • Orientation: Footage is primarily shot in landscape mode, ideal for viewing on televisions or desktops.
  • Raw Footage: Typically, raw footage is not provided, as videographers focus on delivering a polished final product.

In the Toronto/GTA area, packages generally range from *$2,500 to $6,000, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the services and the quality of the final product.

*Note: This was personally the range I experienced when I was considering videography for my own November 2025 wedding. Of course, you can find videographers at lower price points — especially if you’re hiring students or newer professionals building their portfolios. I'm simply sharing what I encountered while looking for reputable vendors offering the kinds of deliverables I would have wanted.

📱 Wedding Content Creators (WCCs): Real-Time Memory Makers

Services they typically will offer:

  • Behind-the-Scenes Capture: Focus on candid, real-time moments using smartphones, providing a more intimate and immediate perspective of the wedding day.
  • Quick Turnaround: Delivery of raw, unedited photos and videos within 24 to 48 hours, allowing couples to relive their day almost immediately.
  • Short-Form Edits: Creation of 60 to 90-second highlight reels suitable for social media sharing.
  • Orientation: Content is typically shot in portrait mode, aligning with mobile viewing preferences.
  • Pricing: WCC services typically range from $800 to $2,500, depending on hours of coverage, the number of edits provided, and the creator’s experience in the industry.

The charm of WCC content lies in its rawness and immediacy. It’s meant to feel like your best friend was capturing the day for you — real, emotional, and slightly imperfect in the best way.

So... Which One Should You Hire?

It depends on a few key factors:

1. What Do You Want to Rewatch?

  • If you dream of a cinematic retelling of your vows with sweeping visuals and emotional music, go with a videographer.
  • If you want to relive the feeling of the day ASAP and see your day from the guest’s perspective, a WCC might be the better fit.

2. How Soon Do You Want Your Footage?

  • WCCs deliver within 1–2 business days
  • Videographers take several weeks to months

3. Where Will You Be Watching It?

  • Cinematic films are best enjoyed on a large screen or TV
  • Content creation is optimized for your phone, Instagram, and TikTok

4. What’s Your Budget?

  • WCCs tend to be more accessible price-wise
  • Videography is a larger investment, but comes with high production value

Can You Have Both?

Absolutely, and many couples do. I’ve worked weddings where I was the only person alongside a photographer, and others where I shared the day with two photographers and a two-person video team. The key is clear communication and understanding how to work collaboratively.

When both teams are aligned, the coverage is even stronger, and many of the videographers I’ve worked with have said they love having extra behind-the-scenes content to complement their final film.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, it’s not about choosing which one is “better,” it’s about what you want to remember, how you want to relive it, and when you want to receive it. Whether it’s through a cinematic love story or raw, behind-the-scenes content that makes you feel like you're back in the moment, both options have real value.

If you’re unsure, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help you figure out what will serve your day, and your budget, best.
